Saturday June 13th
1400hrs Centurion, Melandra Castle Road
Starting from Melandra Castle Road the members of the Longdendale and Glossopdale Footpath Society skirted the bowling green and plunged into Robin Wood. A path through the trees and along the rim of a sandy ravine brought the party to the Etherow bank.
Following the river upstream, a step over the fence into the field was necessitated by the Etherow having washed part of the path away. At the sewage works the group crossed the river at the upstream bridge and crossed into Tameside. The path on the border between shrub woodland and a grass crop headed toward Woolley Flats. In time a long distance path was met, The Valley Way, and this followed to the remote homes at Hague.
On passing Rose Cottage to Broom Cottage by White House to the Pavilion then down from Pingot Lane to Hague Road. Approaching Broadbottom several folk climbed onto Cat Torr for the view overlooking the railway viaduct.
The walk descended Gorsey Brow, then by Lymefield Centre to Best Hill Bridge. A little used path in the river gorge lead the walkers to Bankwood Mill and up the fields to Gamesley Bridge.
Finally the route threaded across the Gamesley estate and brought the ramblers back to Melandra Castle Road.
