Bus to Whaley Tesco
On Bank Holiday Monday and in more showery weather the hikers met on Henry Street Glossop and caught the Buxton bus. Alighting at Whaley Bridge Tesco they began their walk back to Glossop. From Tesco car park the hike went through the horse tunnel below the Peak Forest Canal before gaining the canal tow path which was followed toward Furness Vale.
Paths lead by Waterside to Gow Holes and Howcroft to Landside Road, New Mills. Walking by Pingot Cottage took the party past Gibb Hey and elevenses were enjoyed on the boundary of Birch Vale Cricket Field.
Across the Sett Valley Trail narrow passages with flights of steps lead to Sitch Lane and through to view Aspenshaw Hall. On by Thornsett Fields passing Casper’s Cattery en route to lunch at the Little Mil Inn. Dinner over there was a steady ascent of Coal Pit Hill onto the Coombes Plateau. Along the Cown Edge, views of distant hills dissolving in the approaching rain. Finally across Monks Road and down The Nab back into Glossop.
