Bowden Bridge Quarry
Members of the Longdendale and Glossopdale Footpath Society met at Hayfield. The hikers made their way along Kinder Road to Bowden Bridge Quarry before heading off into the Sett Valley. Walking beside the Sett lead to the drive to Tunstead Farm. The walk headed past Tunstead and went up the sloping pastures toward Kinderlow End.
Through the final gateway and into open access land. Snow drifts hid behind the wall and ahead the expanse of Kinder was hidden in cloud. Keeping below cloud base the group hiked toward Cluther Rocks crossing the Three Knolls and skirting the head of Broad Clough. Those at the front saw a white hare dash for cover. Elevenses were taken in the shelter of Broad Clough and toward lunch the walkers made their way down to Upper Moor.
A wide track ran Upper House and Blackshaw this gave access to the River Kinder which was crossed at a footbridge. Turning down the Kinder Valley the ramblers swung between Hollin Head and Kinder Reservoir into the shelter of William Clough.
The cloud was breaking, watery sunlight filtered through and in the afternoon the route followed the base of White Brow down to Kinder embankment. Tracks by Booth and Hills Houses took the party to Bowden Bridge and the confluence of Sett and Kinder, then off back to Hayfield and home.
